BREAKING: President Duterte Hurt After Motorcycle Accident

President Rodrigo Duterte skid and fell from his motorcycle on Wednesday, senator and close aide Bong Go said.

"Sumemplang sa motor si PRRD kagabi habang nagmomotor," he told reporters on Thursday.

He said the accident happened inside the Presidential Security Group compound in Malacañang Park in Manila City. He said 74-year-old Duterte insisted that he wanted to ride his motorbike.

The senator said Duterte used his elbow to catch his weight, which is why his hip is hurt. He added that Duterte was able to walk afterwards with a slight limp. No other details were provided on how severe the accident was.

Go said the President refused to go to the hospital right after the motorcycle mishap. He said Duterte is resting in his official residence.

"Sumemplang kagabi (si President) habang nagmo-motor palabas ng PSG Compound (The President fell off the motorcycle he was riding on when he was about to leave PSG Compound)," the senator said in a text message to reporters.

"Sumasakit daw balakang (He was complaining of pain in the hips)," he added.

Go said the 74-year-old President was resting at Bahay Pagbabago.

The accident came a day before his attendance to the 45th Philippine Business Conference and Expo in Ermita, Manila.

Duterte previously acknowledged that he is perpetually in pain due to a spinal injury he suffered from a previous motorcycle accident.

"Alam mo si Pangulo hindi magpapahalata iyan kung nasasaktan siya. Sabi niya, 'Hindi, okay lang ako,'" he said in a chance interview.

Duterte is a motorcycle aficionado. He used to ride his motorcycle in Davao City even after he was already declared president.

On Monday, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo assured the public that the Chief Executive is "perfectly healthy," despite his health issues. (PNA)
