Robredo Camp Confident of Winning: ‘How Many Times Do I Have to Win?’

Vice President Maria Leonor Robredo on Tuesday said the preliminary recount report of the Supreme Court, sitting as Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET), would show that there was no substantial recovery of votes for former senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo gestures during a press conference at the Office of the Vice President on Tuesday, October 15, 2019.

The election is over, I was proclaimed by

Congress based on the count of the Comelec. There was a recount, and I again won. How many times do I have to win for Marcos to believe that he was defeated)?” Robredo said.

The high court decided on Tuesday to release the preliminary report in connection with the poll protest lodged by Marcos against Robredo.

The vice president called on the tribunal to dismiss the complaint.

“Ngayon ang gusto naman ni Marcos, magkaroon na naman ng (Now Marcos wants a) [recount in] additional provinces sa ARMM (Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao); if I am not mistaken, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao and Basilan. Eh dapat sana, iyon na ‘yung pinili niya, ‘di ba (Why didn’t he chose these areas earlier)?” she said.

Robredo said the PET’s Rule 65 allows no more than three pilot provinces to be chosen.

For his three pilot provinces, Marcos chose Camarines Sur, Iloilo and Negros Oriental.

Robredo decried that the case had dragged on for so long.

“The mere fact na nagda-drag on ito for so long, nagkakaroon lang siya ng plataporma para mag-propaganda ng mga kasinungalingan. Nagkakaroon siya ng propaganda na magsabi na siya ‘yung totoong nahirang na [vice president] (The case gives him the chance to disseminate his propaganda that he was the true winner [in the vice presidential race]),” she said.
