A 9-year-old Child Genius is to become the World’s Youngest University Graduate

Do you still remember your nine-year-old self? Where were you that time?

It could be a time when you were in the playground, hanging out with your playmates or in the living room, watching your favorite cartoon show.

If Laurent Simons would have to reminisce, maybe 10 or 20 years from now, he would be answering these questions with: I obtained my bachelor’s degree in a university!

Yes, you read that right. Simons, a nine-year-old boy from Belgium, will become the world’s youngest person ever to complete a degree from a university.

According to foreign reports, Simons is currently taking a degree in electrical engineering at the Eindhoven University of Technology. He is set to graduate by December this year after completing his studies for only nine months.

It’s extraordinary as what university staff call his case.

Simons, who has an IQ of at least 145, is just starting as he plans to take a PhD program in electrical engineering while studying for a medicine degree, his father revealed on CNN.

It was bared that Simons’ grandparents first notice that he had a gift, then his teachers went to discover the same thing.

“They noticed something very special about Laurent…They told us he is like a sponge,” both his parents said; adding that their son was given a series of tests to determine the extent of his talents.

The child prodigy started studying when he was four and then went on to complete the supposed five-year study in just 12 months.

His current tutor, Professor Peter Baltus, said that Simons is at least “three times smarter that the next most intelligent student he’s met in his lengthy career.”

One of his teachers, Professor John Wilkes, revealed that when Simons was six, he was already studying at the level of a 16 year old.

His parents, however, said that they try to find balance between Simons being a child and his talents. Like any other kid, they said, he plays with his dog and he also plays on his phone. He also plans to take a well-deserved vacation in Japan.
