Tabal, the now dethroned queen of the endurance race, had to be stretchered out as she wound up in second-place to kababayan Christine Hallasgo, Friday at NCC Athletics Center here.
Hallasgo made sure the gold remained in the hands of a Filipina with a total time of 2:56:56 as her Cebuana teammate seemingly ran out of gas late.

Tabal was ahead of the pack through the first three quarters of the endurance race, but ultimately fell victim to the heat.
“Nag-training siya sa Japan na malamig diba, pero dito siya naglaro at na-encounter niya ang init ng panahon,” coach Eduardo Buenavista said. “Pero ang kagandahan kay Joy, lumaban talaga siya.”

Indeed, the favorite in the event still willed herself to the finish line to clock in at 2:58:49 - sealing the deal on a 1-2 finish for the host country.
Rounding out the podium is Hoang Thi Thanh of Vietnam with a time of 3:02:52.
