30yo Wuhan Nurse Shaves Her Head to Save Time While Preparing for Work & Prevent Cross-Infection

In the midst of the Wuhan virus chaos, doctors and nurses are stretched thin trying their best to attend to infected patients.

With the overwhelming amount of patients that walk into hospitals every day, medical staff are exhausted as there aren’t enough of them to handle the patients, not mentioning the lack of equipment these hospitals have.

On top of that, these medical staff have to make sure that their own health and safety are in check, meaning they have to take time in their packed schedules to ensure that they wear their protective gear properly and to practise good hygiene.

According to The Star, Shan Xia, a nurse in Wuhan decided to shave her head on Monday (27th January) to help ease her work in fighting against the new coronavirus.

The 30-year-old mother of two, who works at Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University, said she chopped off her hair in order to avoid cross-infection and to help her save time when putting on and taking off protective suits.

Meanwhile, the National Health Commission said on Monday (27th January) that it has organised teams of 959 medical workers from seven provinces and cities in China to help Wuhan prevent and contain the infections.

The teams are from Henan, Jilin, Liaoning, Shanxi and Shaanxi provinces, and the municipalities of Tianjin and Chongqing.

Aside from that, seven steering groups have been sent to Beijing, Hebei, Shanghai, Henan, Hunan, Guangdong and Sichuan to check the work of epidemic monitoring, medical treatment, epidemic prevention and control by communities and grassroots medical institutions.

We’re grateful for these medical workers who are willing to risk their own health and safety to help the infected patients.
