Heads up, commuters!
Motorcycle taxis will still be allowed to continue serving commuters as the Transport Department’s pilot program stays, a top official of the technical working group (TWG) told CNN Philippines Tuesday.
“With the recent developments during the Senate hearing, the sentiment of the senators was to continue the study,” TWG chairman Antonio Gardiola said in an interview with The Source.
Senator Christopher "Bong" Go announced that he would recommend President Rodrigo Duterte and the dotr to extend the pilot program for Motorcycle motorcycles as long as drivers make sure the safety of their passengers.
“Itutuloy po natin ‘yan (we will continue it), but then we will come up with guidelines, we will talk to the providers with guidance of the (Transport) Secretary,” he added.
Gardiola earlier said they will have to terminate the test run and declare motorcycle taxis as "illegal," as they have not gathered sufficient data on their safety despite the three-month extension given to conduct the study.
