Rising High: Cebu Pacific Named Most Improved Airline

Airlineratings.com, which bills itself as “the world’s best one-stop airline safety and product rating review website,” recently named Cebu Pacific as the Most Improved Airline of 2020.

The nation’s leading carrier was among the big winners at the website’s “Airline of the Year” award, which acknowledges the “best of the best” in the airline industry. The awards were judged by the website’s panel of experienced aviation editors against a strict set of assessment criteria. More than 230 airlines were considered for the awards’ 24 categories.

Congratulating Cebu Pacific as the winner, AirlineRatings.com Editor-in-Chief Geoffrey Thomas said, “Cebu Pacific has become a major part of the fabric of life in the Philippines bringing affordable travel to most.” He added, “The airline has a very modern fleet and operationally is now up there with the best.”

Thomas’s statement acknowledges Cebu Pacific having one of the youngest fleets in the world; in December 2018, the average age of the fleet was 5.1 years. That number is expected to be even younger in the coming years, as the airline recently signed a memorandum of understanding for several brand-new planes, including 10 Airbus A321XLR and five A320neo single-aisle aircraft, at this year’s Paris Air Show.

“The A330neo is integral to our fleet modernization program,” said Cebu Pacific Chief Executive Officer Lance Gokongwei. “With this purchase, we aim to reduce our fuel emission and build a more sustainable operation.

“This will also give us the lowest cost per seat, at the same time enabling CEB to increase seat capacity and maximize valuable airport slots in Manila and other Asian megacities.”

In Airlinerating.com’s product rating, Cebu Pacific has 3 stars, a respectable performance given the airline’s status as a low-cost carrier. The product rating, for which the perfect score is 5 stars, is based on an airline’s inflight entertainment, cabin space and comfort, beverages, food, and amount of seat recline.

However, in Airlinerating.com’s safety ratings, Cebu Pacific boasts a perfect 7-star score. These take into account several criteria, which include an airline passing the International Air Transport Association’s Operational Safety Audit, not being on the European Union Blacklist, being endorsed by the United States’ FAA, and a blemish-free safety record over the last ten years.

Cebu Pacific first attained the perfect score in 2018.

Congratulations to Cebu Pacific on achieving another milestone. With more new planes, improved food and beverage options, exciting seat sales, and unbeatable value-for-money add-ons for travelers, everyjuan’s a winner.
