'She has done nothing': Duterte calls Robredo a ‘colossal blunder’

President Rodrigo Duterte belittled Vice President Leni Robredo’s work as the second-highest official of the country on Tuesday, calling her a “colossal blunder” who “has done nothing.”

Duterte laughed off Robredo’s criticism of his war on drugs, saying she talks big for someone who barely won the vice presidential elections.

“You know, for all of these years, she has done nothing. She is a colossal blunder,” the President told reporters in Malacañang.

“I hate to say this, but how many voters are there in the Philippines? Just do away with the 200,000 plus that she got as a majority over (former senator Bongbong) Marcos, it was really a mistake,” Duterte said in reference to Robredo’s slim margin against losing vice presidential candidate Bongbong Marcos.

Robredo on Monday released her much-hyped report and recommendation on the government’s narcotics crackdown, nearly a month since President Duterte sacked her as co-chair of the Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs (ICAD).

The vice president, who was given an 18-day stint as head of Duterte’s drug war, said the anti-narcotics campaign was a failure, and recommended that the President transfer the chairmanship of the ICAD to the Dangerous Drugs Board from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.

"Isipin na lang natin kung exam ito. Magiging iskor ng ating pamahalan ay 1 over 100," Robredo said in a press conference Monday.

(Let's just imagine if this were an exam. Our government would have scored 1 over 100.)

But Duterte dismissed Robredo’s suggestion, saying he doesn’t receive lectures from someone like her.

“If ever, kung sakali lang, maging presidente siya gawin niya ‘yan. She doesn’t lecture me,” he said.

(She should do that if ever she becomes president.)

The two top officials of the country have had a frosty relationship as they are often at odds over policies.

It can be recalled that Robredo’s stint at the ICAD was offered by Duterte as a challenge after she criticized his narcotics crackdown late last year.
