Two Chinese Nationals monitored in Bohol for Coronavirus symptoms

Two Chinese nationals, aged 2 and 36, were placed under observation in Bohol after showing symptoms of the 2019 novel coronavirus.

According to a report on "State of the Nation Address with Jessica Soho", another Chinese tourist was placed on quarantine in Cebu also on suspicion of being infected with the novel coronavirus.

Acting Bohol Governor Rene Lopez Relampagos said the tourists were brought to Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital and a  private hospital.

However, they were eventually released from the hospital after swab samples were taken from them. The samples were then sent to Australia for confirmation.

Relampagos said there was proper coordination between the hospital and the Chinese authorities to monitor them.

He also urged the public to remain calm.

"There is no cause for alarm. We are on top of the situation. Kadtong mga so-called reported possible cases, the protocols have already been done. Wala yamuy alarm. Walay validation  nga positive sila," said Relampagos, adding that precautionary measures were undertaken.

Meanwhile, the Bohol- Panglao International Airport (BPIA) has tightened its medical quarantine protocols to prevent the virus' entry into the province.

Ritche Dela Fuente, medical officer III at Bureau of Quarantine-Bohol, said that a thermal scanner  is used at the international arrival area at the airport.

"We are doing our best para mapugngan ang pag-spread sa Bohol," he said.

Bohol, a popular destination, is frequented by Chinese tourists.

There two international flights from China (every Mondays and Fridays) and South Korea every day.

The BPIA has two thermal scanners but only one is used at the international arrival and not at the domestic arrival.

There are no thermal scanner available in ports.

An emergency meeting was called by Relampagos to disseminate updates and to find out the province's readiness to handle the situation.

"Para gayud makapagandam ta, makalikay ta simbako muabot na dinhi nakahibaw nata unsay buhaton," he said.
