Senator Bong Go to seek the Presidency?
No less than President Rodrigo Duterte brought up the possibility during a speech he delivered at the oathtaking of new government officials at the Rizal Hall of Malacañang Palace on Thursday.
The President said Go, being present at evacuation centers whenever a fire hits communities, could be a prelude of him running for the highest position in 2022.
In his speech in front of the new government officials, President Duterte reiterated his desire to retire from politics once his term ends on 30 June 2022.
He said there is no need for them to nurture a personal loyalty to him.
“I don’t need it. And I cannot run anymore, so I don’t give a… ‘Yung pa-politika-politika. Wala na ako diyan. Bahala kayo maiwan. Except Bong Go. Maybe he wants to be president kasi lahat ng sunog nandoon siya. Parang… Saan si Bong? Medyo halata man masyado. Ikaw ata tiga-sindi. Nauna ka pa doon sa bumbero,” the President said in jest.
“Well, huwag mo masyadong sobrahan baka mahalata. Huwag mo madalasan ‘yung sunog-sunog. Eh ‘yung…
The senator immediately issued a statement belying the remarks of the President, whom he said was in a joking mood again.
But allow me to clarify, I have no plans of running for President.
The President said Go is originally from Batangas. His mother married a Chinese and they eventually migrated to Davao.
“No, really. Ito si Bong he’s a Batangueño. He’s not really a Chinese. He’s a Batangueño. Batangueño ‘to pati ugali. The mother married a Chinese but kasama ‘yan namin migrants sa Davao. And at the back of the UM, ‘yung University of Mindanao, it’s almost half of the block, kanila ‘yan. The biggest printing press,” the President said.
Ngayon I could not even see his scalp. Noon, nakikita ko eh,” he added.
Go said he is merely bring true to his mandate of serving Filipinos.
As much as possible, Go said he doesn’t want to talk about politics. But he will volunteer as campaign manager of anybody who will continue the changes implemented by President Duterte.
“Pero kung tatanungin ninyo ako tungkol sa 2022 elections, I am willing to volunteer as campaign manager sa kung sinuman ang makakapagpatuloy ng pagbabago na inumpisahan ni Pangulong Duterte,” Go said.
