Woman who traveled to Philippines tests positive for coronavirus in Australia

A woman who traveled from the Philippines tested positive for coronavirus disease in Australia, the Australian Embassy confirmed Thursday.

The woman in her 60s arrived back in the southeastern state of New South Wales from the Philippines on March 3 and is one of six new confirmed COVID-19 cases across the state's capital Sydney, the local government there reported.

"Her travel details are being obtained and will be disclosed if she posed a risk to any other passengers on her flight," read a statement posted Wednesday in the NSW government website

With the new addition, the total number of COVID-19 cases in NSW has risen to 22, it added. Australia has at least 43 confirmed cases of COVID-19 based on the World Health Organization's tally.

There are no reported cases yet of local transmission in the Philippines. The three confirmed cases recorded were all Chinese nationals who came from Wuhan City in China, the epicenter of the outbreak.
