President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday took a swipe at Senator Richard Gordon, saying that the latter does not stand a chance of winning a higher elected post.
“Eh tumakbo ka ng vice president, hindi ka naman manalo. Hanggang senador ka lang. Kung gusto mo talagang mag-bise presidente, if you want the title vice president, this is my advice to you. Hindi ka talaga mag-bise presidente kailanman,” Duterte said in a speech delivered in Pasay City.
"Being a senator is your limit... You will really not become a vice president. If you want that title badly, create a private corporation," Duterte said in Filipino.
The President also warned that he would make sure Gordon does not earn the second-highest post in the land.
In this 2009 photo, Sen. Richard Gordon is at the national convention of political party Bagumbayan-VNP a few months before he embarked on the campaign trail for president. He lost to Noynoy Aquino in May 2010.
There’s, however, one way the senator from Olongapo can become Vice President, according to him.
"Make you family the incorporators of that corporation then appoint a... member of your family as president of the corporation, then find a way that you will be seated as the vice president,” he added.
“Now, if you want that title badly, what you should do is you create a private corporation, make your family the incorporators of that corporation then mag-appoint ka ng president, a member of your family as president of the corporation, then find a way that you will be seated as the vice president of that corporation.”
