Dengvaxia = Waste Of Tax Money? President's Daughter Contracts Dengue Despite Dengvaxia Shots

Senator Bong Go has confirmed that President Rodrigo Duterte's youngest child, Veronica, also known as "Kitty", has dengue. As a result, the president was extremely worried and hardly slept on the trip back from the Philippines from Russia.

After his arrival speech and answering several media questions this last Sunday, Duterte immediately left for the hospital where his daughter, Kitty, is staying.

“Nakikita ko habang nasa eroplano kami, nag-aalala siya. Parati niyang iniisip at 'di nga raw siya po makatulog sa haba ng flight. For 11 hours ay 'di siya mapalagay dahil iniisip niya ang youngest daughter” said Senator Go.

But the Department of Health (DOH) stopped using Dengvaxia in the government's dengue immunization program in December 2017 after drug maker Sanofi Pasteur said it should not be treated with those who have never had dengue.

The president's youngest daughter received her anti-dengue vaccine last May 2018.

“Okay naman po siya [Kitty]. Dengue fever po ito at on her way to recovery na po siya. Sa awa ng Diyos maayos naman po bumabalik na yung...umaakyat na yung kaniyang platelet and hopefully ay gagaling na siya,” anang senador.

[“She [Kitty] is okay. He has a fever and is on his way to recovery. By the grace of God it is well that he is returning ... his platelet is going up and hopefully he will recover”] said the senator.

Nang tanungin kung gaano kababa ang platelet level ni Kitty, sabi ni Go, “I think around 52 pero unti unti na hong bumabalik sa normal. Right now mayroon pa siyang dengue fever.”

Asked how low Kitty's platelet level is, Senator Go said, “I think around 52 pero unti unti na hong bumabalik sa normal. Right now mayroon pa siyang dengue fever.”

President Duterte learned that Kitty had dengue on Saturday while he was in Russia.

“We can't say. We were in Russia when this happened so we came straight to the hospital and visited her youngest daughter, ”Go said.
