Palace on Albayalde Resignation: Perhaps he had enough of the innuendo



MalacaƱang welcomed on Monday the resignation of embattled Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Oscar Albayalde, saying he may have had enough and and isn’t taking it anymore.

“Well, that’s his call. I can only speculate that perhaps he had enough of the innuendo and the accusation he feels were false and unfair. He said that his family was suffering, so he made that call,” said Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo.


MalacaƱang also denied it pressured Philippine National Police (PNP) chief General Oscar Albayalde into resigning.

Asked if there was there any pressure from the Palace for Albayalde to do so, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said: “None that I know of.”

Albayalde quit his post on Monday morning ahead of scheduled retirement on November 8. He was earlier accused of protecting his men allegedly involved in drug recycling in Pampanga.


Albayalde, who was accused of being involved in the alleged drug recycling in Pampanga in 2013, announced his resignation in a speech before PNP personnel during the flag-raising ceremony at Camp Crame.

“After careful thought and deliberation, I have come to the decision to relinquish my post as Chief of the PNP effective today and go on a non-duty status. I have submitted my letter of intent to Secretary AƱo which he accepted and favorably endorsed to the President,” he said.


Panelo believes his resignation was a “personal decision” on the part of the embattled PNP chief.

The country’s top cop was supposed to retire on November 8 when he reaches the mandatory retirement age of 56.
