In a news conference Saturday, Russian Ambassador to the Philippines Igor Khovaev announced that Putin, who has never visited the Philippines, has accepted Duterte’s invitation to visit the country soon.

Khovaev did not disclose any details of the plan.

“Alam mo pag bumibisita yung head of state ng anumang bansa sa atin ay nangangahulugan na yung pagbisita niya ay magbibigay ng bagong relasyon between the two countries,” said Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo Sunday.

“Kung mahina, palalakasin, kung malakas na, mas lalong palalakasin. Palaging ang purpose nun eh yung ating mga relasyon sa bawat bansa na kinakatawanan ng bumibisita sa atin eh magkaroon ng improvement para yung mga pangangailangan ng ating bansa at pangangailangan nila ay magkatulungan,” he added.

No date has been set for Putin’s visit but presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo was optimistic that it would boost cooperation in security, trade, tourism and people-to-people exchanges.

Panelo said Putin’s visit is expected to boost security cooperation, trade and investment, intelligence sharing, tourism, and educational partnerships between the Philippines and Russia.
