Where to Find the Best Paying Jobs for Filipino Workers

It looks like Filipino engineers have the best options when looking for the best-paying jobs in other countries.

In the latest overseas jobs and salary report by the online job marketplace WorkAbroad.ph, engineering-related jobs were found to be the highest-paid specialization in 2017, with salaries reaching as much as Php99,000 a month for a sea-based master engineer post in the US.

“Our demand for engineers, specifically in the Middle East, accounts for 25 percent of the overseas jobs available in the site. They really are the most in-demand workers,” SEEK Asia Senior Marketing Manager Rowina Sonza said in a press conference on Wednesday, January 17. WorkAbroad.ph is under job portal company SEEK Asia, which also manages the job listing site JobStreet.com.

The survey’s findings were based on the 113,545 jobs posted on the overseas job marketplace site from January to October 2017. The postings were then categorized by industry and region, namely, Asia Pacific, Middle East and the US. Once the entries were filtered, WorkAbroad.ph identified the job postings offering the most generous salaries.

As shown in the infographic, the US and Asia Pacific countries pay the most for engineers as their top three highest-paid professionals were in the field of engineering. Engineers in the Asia Pacific are promised a monthly pay ranging from Php56,000 to Php59,000, regardless of work experience. Senior engineers in the US get paid around Php92,000 to Php99,000.

“It must be noted however that majority of these jobs are sea-based or are in ships,” Sonza added.

The Middle East has the highest demand for engineers but they don’t enjoy the highest compensation levels. The top five out of the 11 identified highest-paid jobs in the Middle East are in fact healthcare professionals with more than five years of work experience. Pediatricians top the list with a salary worth Php86,000, followed by general doctors, Php81,000; orthopedics, Php79,000; dental hygienists, Php75,000; and dermatologists, Php74,000.

Meanwhile, the overseas jobs and salary report found that Saudi Arabia was the top deployment destination, accounting for 54.2 percent of the job postings. The other 30 percent was contributed by five other countries in the Middle East, namely, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman. Meanwhile, the US was seventh on the list with three percent, New Zealand with 1.2 percent, Malaysia with one percent and Taiwan with 0.8 percent.

As of the third quarter of 2016, the number of overseas Filipino workers was estimated at 2.2 million, based on an annual household survey by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), a slight decrease from 2.4 million in 2015.
