Persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) in Surigao City Jail voluntarily cut their food rations and contributed a total of 30 sacks of rice to victims of intermittent earthquakes that hit Mindanao.
City Jail Warden Senior Insp. Diovin Auza praised the humanitarian act of the more than 600 inmates, saying the 30 sacks of rice had a total value of ₱37,500 and were equivalent to a one-day meal allowance for the more than 600 inmates.
“It’s like they skip three meals for an entire day for the purpose of helping our fellowmen who were badly affected by the successive quakes that struck here in Mindanao,” he added.
The donations of the PDLs were officially received by Comm.Lawrence Roque of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in Surigao del Norte.
