Filipino Math Wizard Wins 2 Gold Medals & Trophy in International Math Contest

A Grade-3 student from Los Banos town in Laguna once again made a name in an international math competition held in Vietnam, bringing home two gold medals and a trophy.

Philippine Information Agency reported that Zac Harvey Gordula, an 8-year-old math wizard from Lopez Elementary School bagged two gold for scoring big at the individual and team categories of the 2019 Singa or the Singapore Math Global Team Competition held from November 22 to 26 in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam.

Zac Harvey secured one of the top spots in the Singateers round, the individual contest for Grade 3 level, while his team joined by two other math wizards from Indonesia and Vietnam ranked first in the team round middle division earning him gold awards of the global math challenge.

The young pride of the special science and nature city also bagged a trophy for emerging as the overall runner-up among Grade 3 students who joined the competition.

Zac Harvey’s mom, Cherille Zaira Gordula, said she is extremely proud of his son’s achievements and could not find the exact words to describe another international math competition title won by Zac Harvey.

In her Facebook post, Cherille Zaira expressed gratitude to all the teachers and people who guided and supported Zac in his journey throughout the math competition.

Singa is an international team and individual-based math competition described by its organizers as a unique new math competition with ambitious and important goals.

According to the Singapore International Math Contest Centre (SIMCC), the competition “focuses on very strong teamwork and high-levels of collaboration, stamina, and mutual support and superlative math skills.”

This is the second international math competition won by Zac this year.

In July, Zac bagged the gold award in the math olympiad contest and two bronze awards in the math warriors and mind sports contests of the 5th Singapore International Math Olympiad Challenge held in Singapore.
