Just before the staging of the 30th Southeast Asian Games, where the Philippine has been digging golds, a school team in Las Pinas has done it first at the 2019 World Scholar’s Cup.

The Southville International School and Colleges has collected a massive 175-medal haul at the 2019 World Scholar’s Cup — Tournament of Champions held in Yale University. The Filipino delegates were able to win a total of 83 gold and 92 silver medals in various events such as Scholar’s Bowl, Scholar’s Challenge, Collaborative Writing, and team Debate.
According to Southville, they sent 35 delegates to the Scholar’s Cup which was held from November 8 to 13. One of the school’s representatives, Dalton Emmanuel Mojica, ranked top 26 in the Senior Division out of the nearly 2,000 delegates, making him the leading scholar from the Philippines.

It was reported that Southville debuted in the international tournament last year where they bagged 66 gold and 43 silver medals.

“We are in awe of the achievements of our students. The team’s winning is a testament of how our 5C’s Core Values- Character, Commitment to Achieve, Competence, Collaboration and Creativity, – come into play as our students excel not only in local but also in global competitions,” Southville principal Marie Vic Suarez said in a report.

“Kudos also to our teachers who served as their mentors and to our parents who have believed in our thrust as an institution,”Suarez added.

A team from the Lyceum of the Philippines University in Batangas also participated in the tournament and claimed nine gold and 10 silver medals while the Grace Christian College finished as the overall junior champions.

How much I wish there will be more international schools in our country, instead of state universities, and more students who can afford the tuition fees, so that more gold will be brought home, because we will not benefit at all from the bullion of gold of the Markoses.
