WATCH: Blind and Autistic defeats Disability with Emotional Performance

Kodi Lee is living proof that music can heal.

The 22-year-old is autistic, blind and a gifted singer and pianist. And fans of America's Got Talent have a new hero.

On the opening night of AGT's season 14, Lee shone with a performance of Donny Hathaway’s “A Song for You.”

Without the healing properties of music, Lee’s struggles would be considerably greater.

“We found out that he loved music really early on," explained Kodi’s mom Tina, who accompanied him to the stage.

"Through music and performing, he was able to withstand living in this world. Because when you’re autistic, it’s really hard to do what everyone else does. It actually has saved his life, playing music.”

It was tears all round as the judges took turns praising the young contestant.

Simon Cowell didn’t mince his words. “What just happened there was extraordinary,” he remarked.
