Police: PMA cadet died due to hazing

The Philippine Military Academy (PMA) on Friday confirmed that Cadet Fourth Class Darwin Dormitorio died of hazing, according to James Agustin's report on Dobol B sa News TV.

The PMA made the confirmation at a press conference in Baguio City presided by PMA Superintendent Lieutenant General Ron Evangelista.

An autopsy conducted on Dormitorio showed bruises on different parts of his body that are probably the result of him being punched and kicked several times.

The medico legal officer meanwhile ruled out the possibility that a blunt object was used to hit Dormitorio.

Twenty cadets are now facing investigation in connection with Dormitorio's death. Some of them are under restrictive confinement to ensure their availability.

In a phone interview, Cordillera police chief Brigadier General Ephraim Dickson said they already have three persons of interest.

The room of Dormitorio was considered a crime scene and other cadets have been ordered confined to barracks.

In a statement, the PMA has expressed sympathy to the bereaved family of Dormitorio.

Dormitorio's kin, meanwhile, took to social media to air their frustration over his death and seek justice.

The Xavier Ateneo community, meanwhile, mourned Dormitorio's death.
