Duterte warns ‘Ninja Cops’, Criminals: 'I can be more evil than you'

President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday warned rogue policemen and criminals that he can be more “evil” than them if he decides to do so.

Duterte specifically cautioned the so-called “ninja” cops or policemen involved in the resale of drugs seized in anti-narcotics operations, robbers, and drug pushers not to be too confident in their illegal activities.

“Huwag mo ko bigyan ng ninja cops, mga gangster kayo, l*ch*. Kayong mga ninja, holdaper, drug pusher, akala niyo kayo lang ang matigas because you think you have a monopoly of evil,” the President said in a speech during a business forum at the Manila Hotel.

(You think you're tough because you think you have a monopoly of evil.)

“Well, I think you are... It's a very stupid paradigm because I can be evil like you and more than, if I want to be,” he added.

Duterte said that with more than 2 years left in his term, he can easily “create hell for everybody.” He, however, noted that he can also be a “good boy.”

“Pero if I decided to be a good boy, I am a good boy right now,” he said.

Duterte’s warning came days after Police General Oscar Albayalde stepped down as chief of the Philippine National Police as the latter wrestled with allegations that he protected his men accused of selling illegal narcotics.

PNP officer-in-charge Lt. Gen. Archie Gamboa on Thursday said Duterte also reprimanded police commanders over allegations that some policemen recycled seized narcotics.

"It's a challenge on my leadership, kahit na OIC ako, that I should do something about the impression of the President. Hindi naman kailangan ko pang, 'Sir ano bang gawin natin?' Dapat may initiative ako kung anong dapat kong gawin at ipiniprepara ko iyan," Gamboa said.

(I don't need to ask, 'Sir, what should we do.' I should have initiative on what I should do and I'm already preparing that.)

Duterte has punished a number of erring policemen, sending some of them to far-flung areas. He has also raised bounties on policemen involved in the illegal drugs trade.
