President Rodrigo Duterte is not prohibited from running as Vice President in the next election, Malacañang said.

Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo made this statement after a pre-election survey conducted by PUBLIiCUS Asia, Inc. showed that Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio and her father are the top candidates for President and Vice President for Visayas and Mindanao voters in 2022.
“I’m not surprised. That has been done before in the City of Davao and both of them ran as mayor and vice mayor,” said Panelo in a media briefing on Thursday.
“Whether he wants to run again, that’s his call. But that has been the emerging idea amongst people that there should be a Duterte-Duterte tandem in the next presidential elections,” he added.
The Palace official, however, said it is too early to discuss the 2022 presidential and vice presidential elections.
“Let me put it this way, election is very far from his mind. Running for any office is far-fetched at this time. He’s focused on his constitutional duty to serve and to protect the people,” according to him.
