Lacson wants Death Penalty for Cops who Plant Drug Evidence

Senator Panfilo Lacson on Thursday proposed that death penalty be imposed on law enforcers who will be found guilty of planting evidence in anti-drug operations.

In a dzMM interview, Lacson said he has been in talks with Senator Manny Pacquiao on the scope of the death penalty bill, which President Rodrigo Duterte urged Congress to work during his most recent State of the Nation Address.

Kasi mabibitay ang pinlant," Lacson said.

In January 2017 during a Senate hearing on the alleged "tokhang" for ransom, Lacson himself presented video evidence allegedly showing policemen planting shabu and stealing money from their victims.

"May mauuna rito, magp-plant ng shabu and then papasok 'yung raiding party. These are police officers. Ninakawan pa ng equivalent to P7 million at nag-cough up pa ng addition P2 million,” Lacson said then, explaining the footage caught in a CCTV.

Apart from death penalty for law enforcers planting evidence, Lacson, a former national police chief, also suggested that the quantity of illegal substance found from big-time drug lords be used as a threshold for them to be slapped with the death penalty.

—KBK, GMA News
