Vice-President Bong Go? Robredo's Impeachment could open the doors for Duterte’s right-hand man

The impeachment of Vice President Leni Robredo has become a distinct possibility after a Marcos lawyer sounded out his plan to kick out the country’s second banana.

Will this pave the way for the rise of Senator Bong Go as President Rodrigo Duterte’s official backup?

Marcos lawyer Larry Gadon declared Thursday he would file an impeachment complaint against Robredo if she ended up getting indicted for the sedition charges filed by his client suspected con man Peter Joemel Advincula alias Bikoy, against the Veep and 34 others.

“If Mrs. Robredo is indicted then that would be the next step – the impeachment proceedings against her. That’s the plan, but that’s my plan only. Hindi naman involved dito yung OSG (The Office of the Solicitor General is not involved),” said Gadon.

Gadon, a self-confessed, true-blue Marcos loyalist, successfully impeached Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno. (Losing VP bet Bongbong Marcos has a pending protest case against Robredo).

Last week, lawyer Manuelito Luna, Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) commissioner, also threatened to impeach Robredo for supporting the United Nations Human Rights Council’s probe on President Rodrigo Duterte’s brutal drug war.

““For the nth time, (Robredo) has made it appear that the government is guilty of human rights abuses, and that’s a betrayal of public trust,” said Luna in a statement.

Luis V. Teodoro, former University of the Philippines dean, was quick to catch on the ploy of Gadon and Luna to unseat Robredo.

“It should be more than evident that there’s a plot afoot to completely silence Duterte regime critics, remove Vice President Robredo from office, and install in her place a Duterte clone. If they had any sense, the corporate media would stop interviewing the plotters,” said Teodoro on Twitter.

Should Gadon win in his sedition case, impeaching Robredo would be achievable especially with Duterte firming up his control in both the House and Senate in the 18th Congress.

Under Article VII, Section of 9 of the 1987 Constitution, Duterte can choose Robredo’s replacement “from among the members of the Senate and the House of Representatives, who shall assume office upon confirmation by a majority vote of all the members of the Houses of Congress voting separately.”

Several political pundits (from both sides of the fence) interviewed by Politiko, Senator Bong Go was by far the most likely pick of Duterte.

Not bad for Duterte’s special assistant who has become the undisputed most powerful person outside of the President in this administration.

In 2001, when Vice President Gloria Arroyo replaced ousted President Joseph Estrada, she chose then Sen. Teofisto Guingona as her veep to the disappointment of then Senate President Nene Pimentel.
