OFW quarantined in Hong Kong due to Coronavirus contact

A Filipino domestic worker is in quarantine in Hong Kong after her employer tested positive for novel coronavirus or 2019-nCoV, Hong Kong Consul General Raly Tejada confirmed on Wednesday.

He said the woman, the second Filipino overseas worker placed in isolation in Hong Kong, is healthy and not showing flu-like symptoms linked to the deadly virus.

"Most importantly she is not a patient, but just a confinee. She is healthy and we hope she remains so," he told CNN Philippines.

The worker has to be housed in the designated quarantine camp for 14 days for monitoring. Tejada said she will not be tested for coronavirus infection, but her temperature will be taken daily in line with Hong Kong's strict protocol. If she shows symptoms within the quarantine period, she will be sent to the hospital for a follow-up treatment. If not, she would be allowed to leave.

The Foreign Affairs Department said there is no case yet of any Filipino contracting nCoV in Hong Kong.

Hong Kong has at least 18 nCoV cases, with one death confirmed on Tuesday. Philippines has banned travel to and from Hong Kong, China, and Macau amid the continuous global spread of the virus.

CNN Philippines' Tristan Nodalo contributed to this report.
